Getting started

Users, roles and API keys

Who can use datagab, what each person can do, and how other systems talk to datagab.

Users

Invite people under Settings › Users. Each person signs in with their own account and gets one or more roles.

Roles and permissions

Roles decide what people can see and do. Every page and every action in datagab checks the role of the person using it, so a role that cannot see cases also cannot open them through search or a link.

Start from the built-in roles, or make your own with exactly the permissions a team needs.

API keys

API keys let other systems send data to datagab and use its API, for example to push logs from a tool or to install the datagab agent. Create keys under Settings › API Keys, give each key a clear name, and remove keys you no longer use.

Important
Treat API keys like passwords. Store them in your own secret manager and never in code.

Audit trail

The audit trail records who did what and when, for people and for Emma alike: logins, changes to rules and settings, proposals, approvals and actions. Use it to answer an auditor or to understand a change.

In the consoleSettings › Audit Trail.
